Bluegrass music has been the heart and soul of the Richardson family for many years. Don and Carol began attending festivals in the early 70's and the kids grew up loving the music. Don began playing guitar at the age of 14 and his early influences were Flatt and Scruggs and The Dillards.
Bo picked up the guitar and Kale the mandolin at age 12. Carol played a wash tub bass for many years until Don bought her an upright bass for Christmas in 2001. Two weeks later, the group found themselves on stage at an opry house in southern Ohio. They performed several times at the opry house and then for hog roasts and private parties.
In 2005, Bo entered them in the Nashville Star Search Trowbridge Symposium in Nashville. The group walked away with Best New Talent and a free day's recording at Omni Sound recording studio on Music Row.
In April 2006, they traveled to Nashville to record their first CD, Raised on Bluegrass. The title song, written by Bo, is based on a photograph taken of him when he was five years old and will serve as the cover of the CD. The CD also includes two other songs written by Bo, Sweet Emily and Set on You, and Ghost Band, written by Carol, as well as some traditional songs. Bo sings lead and plays lead guitar. Kale sings lead and plays mandolin. Don plays banjo and sings backup. Carol plays the bass. Tara adds backup vocals. |
