Information

Safire Sun brings bluegrass music to a new and profound sound. The band members reside in Knox County, Ohio. Their musical style ranges from progressive bluegrass to gospel and country.

Safire Sun was originally named Darell Sanson and String Sensations. When 3 of the newest members became part of the band, they thought about changing the name and that is where Safire Sun came from. They have been sharing their music at various festivals and Churches. Their energetic music creates a toe-tapping, hand clapping kind of atmosphere.

The leader of the band Darell Sanson has been around music all his life, beginning at the early age of 7 when he learned to play mandolin. By the time he was 15 years old, he went on the road with The Country Gentlemen. He has also had the opportunity to play with such greats as Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys and the Bluegrass Alliance. Today, Darell is a self-employed music teacher who teaches guitar, mandolin, bass, banjo and fiddle. He has approximately 115 students who range in age from 5 to 70.

Darell’s oldest daughter Yvonne plays guitar and sings lead and harmony. Yvonne lived in Alabama before moving back to Ohio. While living in Alabama, she was a co-writer on the Randy Travis song “America Will Always Stand” which came out after 9-11. Yvonne has written a lot of her own songs, which the group has been performing.

Darell’s youngest daughter Brittney plays bass. Brittney started playing guitar at the age of 7 and has played bass for the last 7 years.

Allie Dible plays guitar and sings lead and harmony for the group. She blends very well with Darell and Yvonne when they all do harmony vocals.

Kelsey Ewing plays banjo for Safire Sun. Kelsey has been playing banjo for the last 4 years and plays like she has been playing for 10 years.

The smallest member of the group is Darell’s 8 year old nephew Ethan Whitehair. He plays guitar. He has great timing for such a small fella. Ethan has a great success story about his life because he was born with Golden Har Syndrome, which affected his eye sight.
Ethan has been playing guitar since he was 5 ½ years old and does a fantastic job.
