The Student Loan is an
eclectic four-piece bluegrass/newgrass band from Bowling Green,
Ohio. Mixing elements of traditional bluegrass and folk music
with elements of rock, jazz, and blues, The Student Loan has
a sound that defies genre and is both familiar and new. With
original songs and a vast library of covers from groups as diverse
as Bill Monroe and Sublime, The Student Loan will please just
about any audience.
Formed in the spring of
2005, The Student Loan synthesizes a wide array of musical styles
and backgrounds. Guitarist, fiddler, and singer Liz Chibucos
is a classically trained composer and violinist, who also has
a background as a classical and jazz pianist.
West Virginian Chad Kimbler,
the groupÕs mandolinist, recently completed his masterÕs degree
in music composition. In addition to playing the mandolin, Kimbler
was formerly the Principal Second Violinist in the West Virginia
University Symphony Orchestra and the former drummer for the
Morgantown, West Virginia based group, The Sundowners.
Banjo player Mark Gerolami
comes from a background in music education and is the former
singer and guitarist for the Bowling Green based band, Norton
and The Anthologies. Bringing to the table a background in musicology
and jazz studies and rounding out The Student Loan is bassist
Julio Appling, former leader
of the Harlequin Jazz Quartet and member of the Southern California
progressive rock group Oneiria
The Student Loan regularly
play throughout Northwest Ohio. Notable appearances include
a performance on the Huntington Bank Stage at The Black Swamp
Arts Festival in Bowling Green, Sledgefest, Tunafest, and a
performance in the prestigious Signature Hall on the 95th Floor
of the Hancock Building in Chicago. They recently filmed an
episode of the WBGU television show ÒLive at Coffee Amici,Ó
scheduled to be aired in February 2007. Their first studio album,
ÒWake Up to The Student Loan,Ó was released on December 1st,
2006.
