The
Just Bluegrass Band - Time
It's apparent why the Just
Bluegrass Band is getting national recognition. They put hard
work, sweat and a good solid sound into their 'grass. From the
first twang of Andy Crabtree's dobro stylings to the ending banjo
licks from Jeff Blankenship, you're in for a treat. Six of the
13 offerings are original works from the band members and it's
here where the band truly shines. The covers of good traditional
bluegrass such as "Wild Bill Jones", "I'm Not
Broke, But I'm Badly Bent", "Blue Moon of Kentucky"
and "Sitting On Top of The World" are crisp and well
executed, but it's the heart and soul in their original pieces
such as "Three Little Things", "Time" and
"A Kid's Life" that showcases the true potential of
the Just Bluegrass Band to become national contenders. Lee Surgener's
strong vocals unite the work and the boys all compliment each
other quite nicely with their instrumentation and the harmonies
will only tighten as they grow together on each new offering.
"River's Edge" spotlights the talent of banjo player
Jeff Blakenship's picking and composition in this entertaining
ramble through a fluid instrumental. Bill Monroe will surely
approve of their covers of standards such as "Blue Moon
of Kentucky" and "Wheel Hoss". If you've got the
time, then "Time" will be an excellent addition to
your CD collection and you'll find that time after time, you'll
enjoy the Just Bluegrass Band!
